Sleeper coach hire in Bengaluru

One vehicle class on this site is not measured in seats. A sleeper coach trades passenger count for berths and exists for a single job: covering a long flat highway overnight so the group wakes up at the destination and keeps a day and a hotel night.

In short

A sleeper coach from Bengaluru carries 30–36 berths and bills ₹65–80 per kilometre on a 400 km daily minimum — the highest minimum in the fleet, because the class is built for overnight long-haul, not city work. Driver bata is ₹1,000–1,250 per day. It earns its premium only on legs long enough to replace a hotel night.

Sleeper rates, and where the class sits

A sleeper is the most expensive class per kilometre on the site, and the one with the highest daily minimum. The table shows why it is a specialist choice, not a default.

A sleeper's cost per person is higher than any seated class because you are paying bus-class kilometres across only 30–36 berths — the premium buys a night's sleep and a saved hotel night, nothing else. Tolls, parking, inter-state entry tax and GST sit outside every figure above.

Berths, not seats — what you actually get

The single fact that changes every calculation on this page is that a sleeper does not have seats. It has bunks. A typical long-haul sleeper runs a 2+1 berth layout — a column of twin berths down one side and single berths down the other, stacked in upper and lower tiers — which is why a vehicle the same length as a 54-seat coach carries only 30 to 36 people. Each berth eats roughly one and a half seats of floor.

That has two consequences worth planning around. First, capacity: if your group is above 36, a single sleeper will not do it, and you are into two vehicles or a seated coach. Second, pairing: twin berths suit couples or colleagues comfortable sharing a bunk; a group that needs everyone in a single berth fits fewer people still. Tell us the split at quote stage, because it decides which specific coach we assign.

Luggage, by contrast, is rarely the problem it is on a packed seated coach. With only 30 to 36 bodies aboard, the under-floor boot serves far fewer bags, and each berth has a small personal nook for a cabin bag. It is one of the few places a sleeper is more comfortable than a full coach rather than less.

When a sleeper beats a seated coach — and when it does not

Worth it: overnight legs of 400 kilometres or more where sleeping on the road genuinely replaces a hotel night and buys back a day. Goa at 560 km and Gokarna at 480 km are the textbook cases — board after work, wake up at the coast, and you have not spent a holiday day driving or a night's room rate. For an alumni group, a large family function party travelling together, or a club heading to a weekend event, that maths works.

Not worth it: anything short, anything with daytime sightseeing, and anything with a ghat. Below about 400 km the overnight saving disappears and a seated 45 or 55 seat coach at ₹48–65 per km is simply cheaper. On a trip built around stops and views, berths are dead weight during the day. And on hill routes a sleeper is the worst vehicle in the fleet — see below.

The honest summary: a sleeper is a distance tool. It is brilliant at turning a long flat highway into a night's sleep, and poor at everything else. We will tell you which side of that line your trip falls on before you book.

On the 560 km Goa run the two-day round trip of 1,120 km already exceeds the 400 km minimum × 2, so you pay for distance, not held days. Tolls, parking, entry permits and GST are added at actuals. We list only flat long-distance routes here, because those are the only trips a sleeper should take.

What a sleeper coach cannot do

A sleeper is the longest, tallest and least agile vehicle on this site, and the list of places it should not go is longer than for any seated coach.

Ghats and hill estates. This is absolute. The 36-hairpin Nilgiri climb to Ooty, the Coorg estate approaches, the Charmadi and Shiradi sections — a sleeper's length and height make it dangerous and slow on them, and no sensible operator sends one up. For every hill destination we switch to a 33-seater or smaller. A sleeper to Coorg is a booking we will talk you out of.

Short trips and day sightseeing. Below 400 km the class is simply the wrong tool — you pay the highest per-km rate in the fleet for berths nobody uses in daylight. For a Mysore day or a Nandi Hills offsite, book a seated coach or a minibus.

City work and tight gates. A sleeper is not a shuttle. Its turning circle and length rule it out of tech-park boarding bays, old-city lanes and multi-stop city pickups. If the group boards at scattered Bengaluru points, that is a seated-coach or minibus job, and the sleeper meets you only for the highway leg.

Questions we answer daily

What is the sleeper coach rent per km in Bangalore?

A sleeper coach is ₹65–80 per kilometre, garage-to-garage, against a 400 km per day minimum — the highest minimum in the Bengaluru fleet because the class exists for long overnight runs. Driver bata is ₹1,000–1,250 per day. A sleeper only makes financial sense on legs long enough to replace a hotel night.

How many people does a sleeper coach carry?

A sleeper coach carries 30 to 36 berths, not seats — fewer bodies than a 45 or 55 seat coach, because each berth takes the floor space of roughly 1.5 seats. Layouts are usually 2+1 berths per bay, a mix of single and twin bunks. If your group is above 36, you need two vehicles or a seated coach.

When is a sleeper coach worth it over a seated bus?

On overnight legs of 400 kilometres or more where sleeping on the road saves a hotel night and a day — Goa at 560 km, Gokarna at 480 km. On anything shorter, or any trip with daytime sightseeing, a seated 45 or 55 seat coach at ₹48–65 per km is cheaper and more flexible. Sleepers are for distance, not for touring.

Can a sleeper coach go to Coorg, Ooty or Chikmagalur?

No. A sleeper coach is a long, tall, heavy twelve-metre-class vehicle, the worst possible choice for ghat hairpins and hill-estate driveways. For Coorg, Chikmagalur and the 36-hairpin Nilgiri climb to Ooty we use a 33-seater or smaller. A sleeper belongs on flat long-distance highways to Goa, Gokarna and Hampi.

How much does a sleeper coach to Goa cost from Bangalore?

A two-day overnight-each-way Goa charter bills the 1,120 km round trip at ₹65–80 per km, plus ₹2,000–2,500 bata — a charter subtotal near ₹74,800–92,100 before tolls, Goa entry tax and GST. A three-day version bills the 1,200 km minimum and runs around ₹81,000–99,750.

Is there luggage space on a sleeper coach?

Yes, in the under-floor boot, and it is usually generous because a sleeper carries only 30–36 people — so the boot serves fewer bags than on a 54-seat coach. Berths also have small personal nooks for a cabin bag. For a full-luggage group we still confirm the boot volume against your bag count at quote stage.

Do sleeper coaches cross state borders cheaper?

No — inter-state entry tax is charged on passenger capacity, so a 30–36 berth coach is taxed like a bus, not like a tempo traveller. On a valid All India Tourist Permit the additional entry tax should be nil. A Goa run crosses a state border, so ask whether your assigned sleeper holds an AITP before you pay an advance.

Are sleeper coaches AC and do they have a toilet?

The sleeper coaches we quote are AC, and AC rates run 10–20% above the shrinking non-AC segment. Onboard toilets vary by vehicle — some long-haul sleepers have them, many do not and rely on highway halts. Tell us at quote stage if an onboard toilet is essential, because it narrows which specific coach we assign.
