Bangalore to Gokarna by charter bus
Karnataka's coast without the state border. Long enough that the kilometres finally price themselves, and long enough that the vehicle choice is about the journey rather than the destination.
In short
Gokarna is about 480 km from Bengaluru — a 960 km round trip that exceeds the class minimum on every vehicle over three days. A three-day charter is ₹38,300–47,500 in a 33-seater and ₹52,800–71,200 in a 45-seat coach, before tolls, parking and GST.

Three-day Gokarna charter, by vehicle
At 480 km each way the actual distance exceeds every class minimum, so this trip is priced by kilometres rather than days — which means a fourth day is relatively cheap and a shorter trip is not.
| Vehicle | Billable km | Per km (AC) | Bata total | Charter subtotal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 17-seat tempo traveller | 960 km | ₹26–32/km | ₹1,800–2,400 | ₹26,800–33,100 |
| 21-seat minibus | 960 km | ₹28–35/km | ₹1,800–2,400 | ₹28,700–36,000 |
| 27-seat minibus | 960 km | ₹32–45/km | ₹1,800–2,400 | ₹32,500–45,600 |
| 33-seat AC bus | 960 km | ₹38–47/km | ₹1,800–2,400 | ₹38,300–47,500 |
| 45-seat AC bus | 1,050 km | ₹48–65/km | ₹2,400–3,000 | ₹52,800–71,200 |

Gokarna or Goa?
They are 80 kilometres apart on the same coast and the transport difference is larger than the distance suggests.
Gokarna is inside Karnataka. No border, no entry-tax question, no permit line on the invoice. Goa crosses a state line and adds an indicative ₹15,000–₹30,000 for a bus-class vehicle that is not on an All India Tourist Permit.
Gokarna is cheaper on the road too — ₹38,300–47,500 against ₹44,400–55,000 for three days in a 33-seater, because the extra 80 km each way is now real billable distance rather than absorbed by a minimum.
What Goa has is everything else. More accommodation at every price point, an airport for anyone who cannot travel by road, and a far larger set of things to do. For a corporate group of 40 that matters more than ₹10,000 on the transport line.
Our honest recommendation: Gokarna for groups of 15 to 30 who want beaches and quiet, Goa for anything larger or anything with a programme attached.
The journey is the planning problem
Four hundred and eighty kilometres is a full day of driving in each direction, which means a three-day trip is one day there, one day on the coast and one day back. That is a legitimate trip for a group that wants two nights by the sea; it is a poor use of three days for a group that wanted a beach holiday.
Four days changes the ratio completely, and because this route is priced by distance rather than by the daily minimum, the fourth day adds mostly bata rather than a full day of minimum kilometres. Ask for both and compare — this is the one route on our matrix where extending the trip is disproportionately good value.
Departure is pre-dawn either way. Tumkur Road out of Bengaluru, Nelamangala cleared before the queue builds, last pickup by 05:30.
Vehicle comfort matters more here than on any short route. Twelve hundred kilometres round trip in a 2+2 tempo traveller is a different experience from the same distance in a 33-seat AC bus with proper seats. For this distance we push groups up a class rather than down, and for a 17-person group we would usually recommend a 21-seat minibus with a real luggage bay over a 17-seat tempo traveller with a rear shelf.
Questions we answer daily
How much does a bus from Bangalore to Gokarna cost?
For three days, ₹38,300–47,500 in a 33-seat AC bus, ₹32,500–45,600 in a 27-seat minibus and ₹52,800–71,200 in a 45-seat coach, as charter subtotals before tolls, parking and GST. At 960 km of round trip the actual distance exceeds every class minimum.
How far is Gokarna from Bangalore?
About 480 kilometres each way, a 960 km round trip — a full day of driving in each direction. That distance exceeds the daily class minimum on every vehicle over a three-day trip, so this is one of the few routes where you pay for kilometres actually driven.
Is Gokarna cheaper than Goa by bus?
Yes — ₹38,300–47,500 against ₹44,400–55,000 for three days in a 33-seater, and Gokarna carries no inter-state entry tax because it is inside Karnataka. Goa adds an indicative ₹15,000–₹30,000 for a bus not holding an All India Tourist Permit.
Should a Gokarna trip be three days or four?
Four, if the group can. Three days is one day there, one on the coast and one back. Because this route is priced by distance rather than the daily minimum, a fourth day adds mostly driver bata rather than a full day of minimum kilometres — it is the best-value extension on our whole matrix.
Which vehicle suits a 960 km round trip?
One class up from what the headcount alone suggests. Twelve hundred kilometres in a 2+2 tempo traveller is a very different journey from the same distance in a 33-seat AC bus. For 17 people we would recommend a 21-seat minibus with a real luggage bay rather than a tempo traveller with a rear shelf.
Do we need a permit for Bangalore to Gokarna?
No inter-state permit and no entry tax — Gokarna is in Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka. That is one of its real advantages over Goa for a group charter, along with the shorter distance. The vehicle still needs a contract-carriage permit, fitness certificate and insurance.
What time should we leave Bengaluru for Gokarna?
Clear the last pickup by 05:30. This is a Tumkur Road departure and the Nelamangala junction chokes early, so the difference between a 05:30 and a 07:00 start is considerably more than ninety minutes on a day where you are driving 480 kilometres.
Is Gokarna suitable for a large corporate group?
Up to about 30, comfortably. Beyond that, accommodation capacity becomes the constraint rather than transport, and Goa 80 kilometres further on has far more of it at every price point. For a corporate group of 40 with a programme attached, Goa is the better answer despite the extra cost.
