Bangalore to Coorg by charter bus
The highest-volume weekend charter out of Bengaluru, and the one where published prices are most misleading. Here is the two-day number with the return leg and the minimum kilometres in it.
In short
Bengaluru to Coorg is 250–265 km each way. A two-day charter bills 600 km in a 33-seater and 700 km in a 45-seater — the class minimum, not the 530 km round trip — putting the charter subtotal at ₹24,000–29,800 and ₹35,200–47,500 before tolls, parking and GST.

Why quotes elsewhere look half the price
A well-known Bengaluru operator publishes 'Coorg — 265 km' against a 33-seater per-kilometre rate and arrives at roughly ₹5,320. Buyers find it, budget against it, and then discover the real number at quotation.
The published figure is one-way distance × per-kilometre rate. It assumes the bus does not return, that no daily minimum applies and that the driver eats and sleeps free. Add the return leg and you are at 530 km. Apply the 300 km daily minimum for a 33-seater over two days and you are at 600. Add ₹1,200–₹1,600 of bata and the charter subtotal is ₹24,000–29,800 — about four times the published number.
The honest range published by one national operator for this route, ₹22,000–₹28,000, sits right at the bottom of ours, which is a reasonable place for it to sit: they are quoting a keen 33-seat rate and we are quoting a band across the class. What neither of us is doing is publishing ₹5,320.
If you have a quote in hand that looks dramatically cheaper than this page, check one thing: how many kilometres is it billing? That single question resolves almost every price gap in this market.
Route, exit timing and the ghat
The usual line is out of Bengaluru on Mysore Road — with the NICE Road link if your last pickup is positioned for it — then the Hunsur corridor, Kushalnagar, and the climb into Madikeri.
The city exit is the part you control. Mysore Road queues from around 07:30 on a Saturday and the NICE Road entry backs up behind it. Our standing recommendation is to be clear of the last pickup point by 06:30. TomTom records Bengaluru's morning peak at 41 minutes 6 seconds per 10 kilometres — an hour's delay in departure does not cost you an hour, it costs you considerably more.
Position the last pickup deliberately. For a group spread across the city, sequencing so the final stop sits near the NICE Road entry saves the whole city crossing. The toll appears on your invoice at actuals and is nearly always worth it on a group movement.
The Madikeri ghat is the easy part. It is a proper two-lane climb and a 45-seater handles it. What a 45-seater does not handle is the last stretch to many properties.
Tell us the resort or homestay name before you book the bus
This is the single most useful thing you can do on a Coorg booking. A large share of Coorg accommodation sits at the end of a private estate track — sometimes 200 metres, sometimes two kilometres — that a twelve-metre coach cannot enter and cannot turn around on. The property usually shuttles guests and luggage in jeeps from the nearest turning point, which is entirely fine when it is planned and thoroughly unpleasant when it is discovered at 19:30 in the rain with 44 people aboard. Give us the property name at quote stage; we check the approach, and if the answer is that a 33-seater fits where a 45 does not, we tell you before you pay an advance.
Two days or three?
The third day is a vehicle day, not a distance day — the road distance does not change, so the extra cost is one more day of the class minimum plus one more day of bata.
| Vehicle | 2 days | 3 days | What the third day buys |
|---|---|---|---|
| 17-seat tempo traveller | ₹15,000–18,600 | ₹21,300–26,400 | A full second day in Coorg rather than a morning |
| 27-seat minibus | ₹20,400–28,600 | ₹30,600–42,900 | Dubare, Nisargadhama and Abbey Falls without rushing |
| 33-seat AC bus | ₹24,000–29,800 | ₹36,000–44,700 | A genuine two-night offsite instead of a long weekend |
| 45-seat coach | ₹35,200–47,500 | ₹52,800–71,200 | Same, with the group in one vehicle |
Vehicle recommendation by group size
Up to 12: a 12-seat tempo traveller at ₹12,900–15,400 for two days. The Urbania is available if the group wants a better ride and will pay for it.
13 to 20: a 17-seat tempo traveller, or a 21-seat minibus if everyone has checked luggage — the tempo traveller has a rear shelf rather than a boot, and we decline roof carriers on the Madikeri climb.
21 to 32: a 27-seat minibus or a 33-seat AC bus. The 33-seater is the cheapest seat in the Bengaluru fleet and it fits more Coorg driveways than a 45.
33 to 44: a 45-seat coach, subject to the property check. If the property cannot take it, two 27-seat minibuses at ₹40,800–57,200 solve the access problem and give you two pickup loops in Bengaluru as a bonus.
Above 44: two vehicles, and we would generally propose a 33 plus a 27 rather than a 49 and a spare, because Coorg access rewards smaller vehicles.
Questions we answer daily
What is the bus hire charge from Bangalore to Coorg?
For two days, ₹24,000–29,800 in a 33-seat AC bus and ₹35,200–47,500 in a 45-seater, as a charter subtotal before tolls, parking and GST. A 17-seat tempo traveller is ₹15,000–18,600. Those figures bill 600 and 700 kilometres respectively, because the class minimum exceeds the 530 km round trip.
How far is Coorg from Bangalore by road?
250 to 265 kilometres each way depending on whether you are heading for Madikeri, Kushalnagar or a property deeper into the estate belt. The round trip is therefore about 530 km, but a two-day charter bills 600 to 700 km because of the daily class minimum, which is what actually decides your invoice.
Why do some sites quote Bangalore to Coorg bus hire at around ₹5,000?
Because they multiply the 265 km one-way distance by a per-kilometre rate and stop there. That calculation has no return leg, no daily minimum and no driver bata. The same 33-seater priced honestly for two days bills 600 km and comes to ₹24,000–29,800 — about four times the published figure.
Do I need an interstate permit for Bangalore to Coorg?
No. Coorg — Kodagu district — is in Karnataka, so the whole journey is intra-state and no inter-state entry tax or All India Tourist Permit question arises. The vehicle needs a valid contract-carriage permit, a current fitness certificate and insurance, which we send with every quote.
What time should the bus leave Bangalore for Coorg?
Clear your last pickup point by 06:30. Mysore Road queues from about 07:30 on a Saturday and the NICE Road entry backs up behind it. With the city morning peak running at 41 minutes 6 seconds per 10 kilometres, a late departure costs far more than the delay itself.
Can a 45 seater bus reach a Coorg homestay?
To the main road, almost always. To the property, often not — a large share of Coorg accommodation sits at the end of a private estate track that a twelve-metre coach cannot enter or turn on, and the property shuttles guests in jeeps. Give us the property name at quote stage and we check it beforehand.
Is a two-day or three-day Coorg trip better value?
The third day costs one more day of the class minimum plus one more day of bata — for a 33-seater that takes ₹24,000–29,800 to ₹36,000–44,700. Per hour in Coorg it is far better value than the second day, because the driving is already paid for. Most corporate offsites should take three.
What is included in the Coorg charter price?
The vehicle, fuel for the contracted distance, a driver with a current PSV badge, insurance, permits, maintenance and our coordination. Excluded and billed at actuals: tolls including NICE Road, parking at your property and at Dubare or Abbey Falls, entry tickets, and GST at your chosen rate.
How many people fit in one bus to Coorg?
Up to 44 in a 45-seat coach, keeping the front crew seat for a coordinator. For groups above 32 we often recommend two smaller vehicles instead — two 27-seat minibuses at ₹40,800–57,200 — because Coorg property access rewards smaller vehicles and two loops collect a scattered Bengaluru group far faster.
