Bangalore to Chikmagalur by charter bus

The default two-day corporate offsite out of Bengaluru, and the route where the last two kilometres matter more than the first two hundred and forty.

In short

Chikmagalur is 240–250 km from Bengaluru. A two-day charter bills 600 km in a 33-seater and 700 km in a 45-seater against the 500 km round trip, because the class minimum decides — putting the charter subtotal at ₹24,000–29,800 and ₹35,200–47,500 before tolls, parking and GST.

Computed from rate card version 2026.3Three days costs one more day of class minimum plus bata — a 33-seater goes to ₹36,000–44,700Charter subtotal = billable kilometres × per-km rate + driver bata × days. Tolls, parking, entry permits and GST are added at actuals on the invoice. Billable kilometres are garage-to-garage and never less than the class minimum for the number of days the vehicle is held — that single rule is why the honest number is roughly double a one-way estimate.

Why Chikmagalur is the default Bengaluru offsite

Of the three ghat destinations in the 220–265 km band, Chikmagalur takes corporate groups most easily. Coorg has more accommodation but more of it is down estate tracks; Sakleshpur has fewer properties able to absorb 50 people at once. Chikmagalur has enough resort capacity for a full offsite, enough conference and activity space to fill a Saturday afternoon, and a road that a 45-seater can use for all but the final approach to some properties.

That is also why it is competitive. On a long weekend the coach fleet for this corridor is committed four to six weeks ahead, and a Friday-evening departure for a Saturday-morning start is not the flexible option it looks like — an overnight departure makes a two-day trip a three-day one in billing terms, because the vehicle is unavailable for a Friday duty.

Our standing advice for a Chikmagalur offsite: book the vehicle before you book the resort if your dates are a long weekend, and budget three days rather than two if the programme has any Sunday content at all. The third day costs ₹36,000–44,700 against ₹24,000–29,800 for a 33-seater, which buys a genuine second morning rather than an early departure.

Route, departure timing and the climb

The usual line runs out of Bengaluru on Tumkur Road, through the Nelamangala junction, and west toward Hassan and the Chikmagalur turn. The alternative via Mysore Road and Hunsur is longer and is used mainly when a group's pickups sit on the southern side of the city.

Nelamangala is the choke point and it starts early. For a Tumkur Road departure we want the last pickup cleared by 06:00, half an hour earlier than the Mysore Road corridor. Bengaluru's morning peak runs at 41 minutes 6 seconds per 10 kilometres, so the cost of missing the window is measured in hours, not minutes.

The climb into the coffee belt is the gentler of Karnataka's ghats. A 45-seater handles the main approach. What defeats it, as in Coorg, is the private estate road at the end — and Chikmagalur's coffee estates have a lot of private road. Give us the property name at quote stage.

Mullayanagiri, Baba Budangiri and the hill roads beyond the town are a separate question from getting there. Several are genuinely unsuitable for a full-size coach, and the standard arrangement is that the coach stays at the property and the group takes jeeps up. Plan that as part of the itinerary rather than discovering it at breakfast.

Sizing the vehicle for a Chikmagalur offsite

25 people: one 27-seat minibus at ₹20,400–28,600 for two days. Fits most estate approaches and gives you a single manifest.

50 people: two 27-seaters at ₹40,800–57,200, or a single 55-seat coach at ₹40,100–47,500. The coach is cheaper; the pair is more likely to reach your property and lets you run two pickup loops in Bengaluru.

100 people: four 33-seat AC buses at ₹96,000–1,19,200 is the cheapest per seat. Two 45-seaters plus a 27-seat minibus at ₹90,800–1,23,600 is the usual compromise when fewer vehicles matter more than cost.

Above 100 the constraint is usually the property's parking rather than anything on the road. Most Chikmagalur resorts can hold two coaches comfortably and four with notice; ask them before you ask us.

Questions we answer daily

How much is a bus from Bangalore to Chikmagalur?

For two days, ₹24,000–29,800 in a 33-seat AC bus, ₹35,200–47,500 in a 45-seater and ₹14,200–17,600 in a 17-seat tempo traveller, as charter subtotals before tolls, parking and GST. Those bill 600 to 700 kilometres because the class minimum exceeds the 500 km round trip.

How far is Chikmagalur from Bangalore?

240 to 250 kilometres each way depending on which part of the coffee belt you are heading for, so about 500 km round trip. A two-day charter bills 600 km in a 33-seater and 700 in a 45-seater because of the daily class minimum, which is what actually determines the invoice.

What time should a Chikmagalur offsite leave Bengaluru?

Clear the last pickup by 06:00 for a Tumkur Road departure — half an hour earlier than the Mysore Road corridor, because the Nelamangala junction chokes early. With the city morning peak at 41 minutes 6 seconds per 10 km, a late start costs hours rather than minutes.

Can a 45 seater reach a Chikmagalur coffee estate resort?

To the main approach, usually. To the property itself, often not — Chikmagalur's estates have a lot of private road, and the standard arrangement is that the coach parks where it can turn and the property shuttles guests in jeeps. Give us the property name at quote stage and we check it beforehand.

Is Chikmagalur or Coorg better for a corporate offsite?

Chikmagalur takes large groups more easily — more resort capacity that can absorb 50 people at once and better activity space for a Saturday afternoon. Coorg has more accommodation overall but more of it is down estate tracks. Costs are within a few thousand rupees of each other for the same vehicle and days.

Do we need a permit for Bangalore to Chikmagalur?

No inter-state permit — Chikmagalur is in Karnataka, so the whole route is intra-state and no entry tax applies. The vehicle needs a valid contract-carriage permit, current fitness certificate and insurance, which we send as PDFs with every corporate quote without being asked.

Can the bus take us up to Mullayanagiri?

Usually not a full-size coach. Several of the hill roads beyond Chikmagalur town are unsuitable for a 45-seater, and the standard arrangement is that the coach stays at the property while the group takes jeeps up. Build that into the itinerary rather than discovering it over breakfast.

How far ahead should I book for a long weekend?

Six weeks. The coach fleet on this corridor is committed four to six weeks ahead for any three-day weekend, and a Friday-evening departure does not solve it — an overnight start makes a two-day trip a three-day one in billing terms, because the vehicle is unavailable for a Friday duty.
